AW17 Beauty Trend Report: Part 1

PROTEST BLACK

Wylde Beauty Director, Terry Barber, breaks down the season's hottest beauty trends

The beauty at the AW17 shows took a more radical revisit to the dark eye, making a defiant stance against the homogenised version that’s been exhausted by social media. We saw everything from emo-ish heavy kohl waterlines, to punky winged blocks, to more “socked in the eye” smokiness, reminiscent of 80's Buffalo Girls or Peter Lindbergh’s grainy black and whites from the 90’s.
Of course, black liner is not a new trend, it’s a classic. It follows a woman through her whole life. It’s simply a good time for it to show some “anger”. Even though the last time one played with it was while dabbling in skinny jeans and discovering The Libertines, black liner still works in the context of a slightly more grown up and groomed new self.
