Wylde explores cult candle brand NOMAD NOÉ
Full disclosure: I am obsessed with scented candles! I do have my favourites, but I also derive great pleasure in seeking out new room aromas. I don’t even have a list of boxes that need to be checked… when I find a great one, I just know. And latest on my radar is the new (ish) brand Nomad Noé.
Founded by self-professed “global nomad”, Corentin Hamon – who lived in a dozen countries spanning five continents over the course of ten years, before settling in Manhattan – the Nomad Noé stable currently consists of seven candles, each one named after a person from history “whose story got lost.”
Hamon and partner Arash Yomtobian are both vegans – “for the animals, for the planet and for our own health” and have crafted a collection that is clean, plant-based and 100% cruelty-free. The candles are hand-poured in small batches in the United States with an exclusive wax blend of apricot and coconut waxes – this sustainable blend burning cleaner and longer.
Each candle comes in a rather cool container made of bisque porcelain, a very thin and delicate matte ceramic that glows when the candle is lit. Eye-catching graphics spell out –literally – the olfactory delights within, coupled with a coloured lid specific to each scent. How about Poet in Hangzhou (Bamboo & Tuberose), Hero in Niani (Amber & Patchouli), Rebel in Bahia (Neroli & Incense), Muse in Wyoming (Rosa Woodsii & Sandalwood), Dreamer in London (Cedarwood & Vanilla), or Pioneer in Tasmania (Sea Salt & Coconut)? Pretty mouthwatering, huh? My own favourite – and I am obsessed! – is Visionary in Esfahan, which exudes Saffron and Rose without being at all flowery, or old-lady-ish. The yellow lid gives a hint that the Saffron is the more immediate aroma in this, but the rose undertones really create a complex scent that defies easy definition. Just gorgeous!
