Super-Natural: Wylde loves Hwyl by Aesop
Report and photography by David Newton
Here at Wylde we are big fans of Australian cult skin/hair/body brand Aesop. Founded in Melbourne 30 years ago, the company has resolutely stuck to its original principles of careful, conscious living, proving that an indulgence in luxury doesn't have to come at the expense of one's surroundings and, ultimately, the planet. We particularly love their motto: "Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly."
So far, so worthy: but how do the products stand up in a crowded marketplace? In a word, brilliantly. And I have to say I am a tiny bit obsessed with their new fragrance launch Hwyl. Green, mossy, woody, with an undercurrent of smoke and spice...totally hypnotic! The key ingredients are Cypress, Frankincense and Vetiver, which make for an experience reminiscent of both the natural world, and the spiritual (Frankincense forever being associated with churches in my mind). It lasts a long time on the skin, too… which is the holy grail of the perfume world.
The word Hwyl comes form the Welsh for a stirring feeling of emotional motivation and energy, and it's a perfect name for this fragrance, that can be worn by both sexes. I love it and it's immediately become my current favourite.
Hwyl by Aesop is on sale at Liberty for £83
